A most notable property for sale
Offered below appraised value: $699,000.00
Located in Bloomsburg, Columbia County, Pennsylvania, Cabin Run Farm was once a large and well-known working farm; today it is a beautiful and versatile private property with 8 landscaped acres.
Sitting proudly on this site since 1869 is Aikman House. This home is a fine and stunning example of the infamous and versatile design for farmhouses built in Pennsylvania during the 1800s. The architecture of Aikman House is a true ‘4 over 4’ design, meaning its interior is a center hall traditional home with four rooms on the first floor and four rooms on the second floor. Historically, the eight rooms were identical in size; one on top of the other. Today, the ‘4 over 4’ stands with two walls having been altered to allow for additional space in the large versatile room on the first floor, and a large walk-in closet room adjoining the third bedroom, on the second floor.
Many of the original features remain intact in the main portion of this house; the original fireplace, the pine flooring, the door hardware, and the traditional double hung windows. One specific feature, still intact and beautifully preserved, is worth noting; the interior doors. The doors are made from American Chestnut. American chestnut became extinct during one of the worst blights in the history of American forestry, therefore rendering the wood of this home’s beautiful interior doors a rare and valuable commodity, indeed.
Although this home is replete with special features, one in particular is stunning in its craftsmanship and its story. Just as the original owners, the Aikman family, emigrated to Pennsylvania from Europe in the 1700s, so did our lovely kitchen, in the 1980s. Timeless, handmade Small Bone cabinetry and a traditional four oven AGA stove compliment this bright, spacious, and sunny kitchen. The cabinetry and cobalt blue AGA were ‘special order items’ from England and were shipped expressly to Cabin Run Farm. The area originally used as the 1869 kitchen, adjoins the imported English kitchen. This lovely space, with the original fireplace, can be utilized for a spacious informal breakfast room or a comfortable open space family room.
Rooms and spaces on the first floor of the original farmhouse consists of the English kitchen, the breakfast room/family room, a first-floor laundry room/bathroom, a large living room or versatile multi-purpose room, a formal dining room, and an adjoining sitting room.
The second floor is accessible by the formal front staircase or a quick trip up the steps by way of the unique ‘tucked in’ curved staircase, accessed from behind the original fireplace. The second floor offers its own freshly designed full bathroom with the restored claw foot tub, three bedrooms, two spacious walk-in closet rooms and a versatile den/office area.
The original Aikman House is complemented by the substantial and pleasing addition extending beyond the original kitchen space. One enters the delightful master bedroom suite through a wide art gallery, purposed on three levels. The private suite contains a living room area with a sizeable fireplace, handsome solid hickory wood floors, and a pair of double French doors, which open onto a ceramic tile lanai. This welcoming outdoor space overlooks the inground concrete pool.
The master bedroom suite enjoys a sizeable master bathroom, finished overall with imported ceramic tiles. The master bathroom is appointed with an oversized shower, double sink vanity, jet tub, and a separate walk in closet room, with pocket door.
An unexpected treat is the warmth of your feet when stepping onto the heated floor tiles in the spacious and beautiful master bathroom. Large arched windows in the master bathroom provide wonderful light and a spectacular view to the outside. A clear stained-glass window adds additional charm to this unique space.
This entire beautiful and historic structure is protected, for all seasons, with a new ‘best’ standing seam metal roof, special ordered, and installed in the year 2019.
In addition, there exist a small private yard area, accessible from the art gallery, which enjoys its own house entrance and dedicated oversized porch. This area is secured for safety and privacy by black chain link fencing and with a locking gate. This area is additionally secured with surveillance. The inground pool area is surveilled and is also secured with fencing and a locking gate.
